“Recently, threats have particularly targeted Indian diplomats and sections of the Indian community who oppose the anti-India agenda,” an advisory released on Wednesday by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said. Nijjar was an outspoken supporter of the creation of a separate Sikh homeland known as Khalistan, which would include parts of India’s Punjab state. The Khalistan movement is outlawed in India and considered a national security threat by the government. A number of groups associated with the movement are listed as “terrorist organizations” under India’s Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). His death both shocked and outraged the Sikh community in Canada, one of the largest outside India and home to more than 770,000 members of the religious minority.

There is no evidence Nicole Schwab, World Economic Forum (WEF) leader Klaus Schwab’s daughter, publicly called for “permanent climate lockdowns.” Yet, posts on social media link to a headline that says: “Klaus Schwab’s Daughter: ‘Permanent Climate Lockdowns Coming – Whether You Like It or Not.’”It stems from an article published by ‘The People’s Voice’ website on July 30 (here). Reuters did not find any credible reports that Nicole Schwab made a call for “permanent climate lockdowns” (archive.is/wip/dm6il), and a spokesperson for the WEF said to Reuters that she made no such remark. The article itself and the evidence it includes also do not show Schwab proposing permanent climate lockdowns. The article does not call for a “permanent climate lockdown,” however. The video linked in the article does not feature Nicole Schwab making a call for permanent climate lockdowns.

Yet, the risk of an energy inflation resurgence makes a European Union ban on Russian oil reselling a tough call. The war in Ukraine has offered India an opportunity to boost purchases of discounted Russian oil. European imports of oil derivatives jumped to 200,000 barrels per day after the EU banned Russian crude products imports on Feb. 5 from 154,000 barrels previously, according to Kpler data. And New Delhi argues oil products substantially transformed in a third country cannot be subject to EU sanctions. loadingTo avoid an open clash with India, the EU could try to target European companies buying Russian-origin refined oil.

Indian Ministry of Defence/Handout via REUTERSApril 5 (Reuters) - Rescue teams made final checks on Wednesday for anyone still trapped in an avalanche that swept down on a road in the Indian Himalayan state of Sikkim the day before, killing seven people. We will scour the area properly before we call them off," Tenzing Loden Lepcha, a police official in the northeastern state, told Reuters by telephone. Avalanches have killed at least 120 people in the Indian Himalayas over the past two years. NEW DELHI, Feb 3 (Reuters) - India's ministry of corporate affairs has started a preliminary review of Adani Group's financial statements and other regulatory submissions made over the years, two senior government officials told Reuters on Friday. Adani Group has denied allegations by U.S.-based short-seller Hindenburg Research of improper use of offshore tax havens and stock manipulation, saying it has "no basis" and is due to an ignorance of Indian law. Adani Group is battling a stock market rout which was triggered by the Hindenburg report on Jan. 24 and this week scrapped a $2.5 billion share sale. The ministry's review marks the latest scrutiny of the Adani Group, but a first by the federal government in New Delhi. A spokesperson for Adani Group did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt, Nov 12 (Reuters) - India wants countries to agree to phase down all fossil fuels at the COP27 climate summit in Egypt, rather than a narrower deal to phase down coal as was agreed last year, two sources familiar with the negotiations told Reuters on Saturday. India wants to expand that pledge to include all fossil fuels, the two sources who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity said. Asked to confirm that was its position, a spokesperson for the Indian COP27 delegation said: "We did not mention coal at all." The proposal would have to be agreed by consensus during the next week if it were to go into a final COP27 deal. "We mentioned the IPCC AR6 report that has come since Glasgow that recognizes the need for phase down for all fossil fuels.
In recent months, China has offered Russia tacit support and stepped up economic assistance to its neighbor, boosting bilateral trade to a record high. But Kewalramani said the SCO could provide a "space (for India) to engage with China and Russia." "Particularly, being on the table while China and Russia are together, because the closer that relationship gets, the trickier it gets for India," he said. Since 2019, Iran, Russia and China have held three joint naval drills amid deepening ties. But some experts say in its current state, the SCO is not really the ideal platform for China and Russia to push that anti-West world order.
